Aloha and welcome to our home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Mahalo for taking the time to look around and consider this for your vacation home as well. After extensive renovation, our home was offered for the first time in 2013 as a Kona oceanfront rental. In 2014, The Guardian newspaper listed it as one of the Top Beach Houses in the World.
Upon entering you will be mesmerized by the breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and sounds of the waves. This beautifully restored 1 bedroom, 2 bath oceanfront home has all the charm of yesteryear with the added conveniences and sustainability of today. The view and location are spectacular.
Completely renovated, this updated home has hardwood floors, granite countertops, koa cabinets, stainless steel appliances, air conditioning, iHome docking stations, Bose outdoor speakers with Bluetooth receiver (to pair your own devices and play music) with connections for Android and Apple products, iTouch pre-loaded with various Hawaiian music, wireless internet, washer/dryer, California king bedroom set, hdtv plasma in great room and bedroom, gas BBQ, Tiki Hut for afternoon drinks, teak lounges, etc. The lights are on dimmers so you can set your own environment and mood. There's even an indoor switch to light up the water at night to create a spectacular view!
Ideally located overlooking Kahalu'u Beach, you are within feet of the best snorkeling and surfing on the island. (If you do surf or stand up paddleboard, you can paddle straight out and be in the break in less than 5 minutes.) Dolphin sightings are common. During winter months, whales can be seen daily as they swim by. While there is so much to do on the Big Island, you will have a difficult time pulling yourself away from your home and the incredible views.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to make you feel at home. Morning coffee (Kona of course!) on the lanai is a great way to start your day.
Perfectly situated 4.5 miles from the town center, you’re out of the bustle of Kona, yet close enough to easily walk, bike or drive there. Or take the Kona Trolley, which operates every day. But you may never need to; the Keauhou Shopping Center is only half a mile to the south, with restaurants, groceries, a drug store, post office, ice cream shop, and even a movie theater within easy walking distance.
After a day of exploring, at the beach or simply enjoying the sights and sounds of Kona Moana Hale, a large BBQ on the deck is available for your use. Since you are west facing, sunsets are not to be missed.
Upon retiring, the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep.

SUSTAINABILITY
We are blessed to be located in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Being on an island, we are especially mindful of our scarce natural resources and our impact on the environment and coastline. Our ongoing efforts on behalf of sustainability and environmental stewardship include the following:
- Our maintenance foreman is certified in Sustainable Cleaning and only uses biodegradable products.
- The interior LED lights are on dimmers for energy efficiency.
- The landscaping requires little or no irrigation.
- We recycle and encourage guests to do the same with clearly marked bins.
- All food items left in the home upon departure are donated and distributed to the needy of Kona.

We have stayed in Kona Bay Estates before with family, and I am telling you the property is just as breathtaking. This house is great for two, or a very small family! It has many updated features, and every detail has been thought of. The decor is tastefully done with a tropical feel. You are welcomed with fresh fruit, coffee and Hawaiian music playing in the background. With this house you are getting exactly what you pay for and believe me - no regrets here!

"We just left our new home-away-from-home yesterday and am already missing the sound of crashing waves! I cannot even begin to explain why this is the PERFECT rental. You truly feel that you were staying a a friend's home rather than a rental.
I have stayed at VRBO's and Airbnb's all over the world, and many of these "luxury" rentals cut corners where they can. Or they never look like the photos provided. I have stayed at units that give you one dish and laundry pod for a week's stay and only the toilet paper on the current roll, necessitating a LOT of items that you need to buy to stock the unit for your stay. And a lot that is left behind! Not so with this place. Gorgeous fresh local flowers, and fresh fruit upon arrival, a pantry stocked with Pellegrino and still water, many condiments and even some pasta and bottled sauce for an emergency meal. And Kona coffee with drip or press pots provided!
This unit is scrupulously clean, as I seriously have an overblown idea of what clean is. There was no mold or dirt to be found inside or outside on the patio. Very nice white towels and sheets, a very comfy bed, and a washer and dryer with all the soap and dryer sheets you could need! A/C also a plus.
This unit's location is also excellent, far away enough from the crazy chaos of Kona but next door to a wonderful snorkel beach. You can sit forever on the patio and watch the surfers. We made sure to be back to the unit by sunset each day as that was absolutely the best show in town! There are great farmer's markets nearby so DON'T buy your fruits or veg at the grocery store nearby. You will pay way too much and the quality is only so so. They also have a great informational binder that we used extensively to find restaurants and things to do around the island. Make sure to ask about the little-known snorkel beach by the marina. That was a wonderful surprise!
I looked around at all the rental signs around the area, and many were surely expensive but no where near how pristine this unit was. A hotel room like this would easily be $1500 a night. And you are literally ON the water. In the week we stayed I got one rogue wave it me square on while trying to take a pic of the amazing sunset. You cannot get any closer to the water than that! :) Go for it! Please trust me, you will NOT be disappointed with your choice.
